When winter hits, I become a dormant, shivering, less interesting version of my already only somewhat interesting self. My winter hobbies are comprised of eating, sleeping, and watching movies—two-thirds of which are actually basic needs. Often, I've wished there was a recurring event at a Brooklyn hideaway where I could take my elastic waistband on a field trip during this depressing season. Luckily, thanks to Nitehawk and ABSOLUT, I now have an escape.

Last Friday and Saturday, Nitehawk Cinemas teamed up with ABSOLUT to kick off a unique series of screenings, starting with a midnight showing of THX 1138, George Lucas's directorial debut. I arrived at Nitehawk and proceeded to order myself a Rosemary Electric Lemonade from ABSOLUT's specialty cocktail menu while I nibbled on some truffle oil popcorn and listened to a DJ who made sci-fi sound effects catchy.  DJs? Truffle oil? I was in my element already as I headed to the theater with my vodka.

This particular screening was a Live Sound Cinema occasion. As the movie played, the band Conveyor recreated the film's soundtrack. The effect was incredible. It was a rare and unexpected twist on a Friday night at the movies. Not to mention I got to eat, drink, and be merry throughout the screening thanks to a doting waiter—a win-win all around for me and my pajama jeans.

If you haven't been to Nitehawk, you must go immediately.  If you have been to Nitehawk, you should also probably go immediately. Or better yet, you should go on Saturday December 21 and Sunday December 22 for their next ABSOLUT powered event—a noon brunch Art Seen showing of Pecker.
