Show Stuff - SXSW: Day Three

Having been at SXSW for three full days now, I can offically say that I would not mind going home soon. My feet hurt, I've gained 35 pounds from drinking beer from sunup till sunup, and my nose is so sunburned I look like I have a disease.

Having been at SXSW for three full days now, I can offically say that I would not mind going home soon. My feet hurt, I've gained 35 pounds from drinking beer from sunup till sunup, and my nose is so sunburnt, I look like I have a disease. But live music or whatever. It's fun, right?

Here's a rundown of some of the things I've seen so far.

I saw a band of actual teens called Twin Peaks play at the Brooklyn Vegan Chicago party. The bass player looked like he could be my twin brother, and they all played with such rubbery enthusiasm that I could practically smell the ball cheese from where I was standing. I loved them.

The only show I really gave a crap about seeing all week was Nick Cave and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the big NPR thing at Stubb's, and I was there, so if I do nothing else for the rest of the week, I'd feel fine about it. Of course, every single person there was an asshole from hell who just jabbered on through every Nick Cave song, and then during the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' set, a bunch of people started pushing and shoving and being weird, so I just watched from behind some tree while resting my beer on a trash can. It was great. I would put 99 of my babies inside of Karen O, and my travel buddy agreed that he would, too.

As we were leaving the big stage area of Stubb's to go somewhere else, we passed through the small stage room just in time to see Le1F come up. I screamed to my friend, "OH!!! CAN WE STAY???" And then I did my own special version of "dancing." At least five people asked me, "Who's this guy?" And I felt cool that I knew about Le1F, and other people didn't. I'm cool. Like really cool.

Yesterday was the Riot Act/Mint Records showcase at Cheer Up Charlies, which is hands down my favorite venue in Austin. A shit ton of amazing bands played, and I had so much fun that I stayed there for roughly seven hours.

Dana Falconberry played, and I love her and her band so much. So many emotions were felt.

Andrew WK played with Nardwuar and people went bat shit. Andrew WK's hair looks like it would actually smell very nice. Nardwuar's does not.

Pony Time played, and I shook my knees and tapped my foot. This band is gonna be big.

I watched Brass Bed while sitting on an Astroturf platform and then on a rock. They're dreamy.

Also worth noting, since free shit is my favorite thing in life, I was lucky enough to be given a free pair of shoes by a company called Macbeth, and they are so comfortable that I want to put them in my mouth. I don't think that really means anything.

Stay tuned for more groundbreaking coverage tomorrow.
