Chiefs Rip Patriots Defense To Score On Three Plays

The Chiefs offense is working quickly against New England.

Here's a welcome sign for Chiefs fans: Jamaal Charles scored his second touchdown of the game on a five-yard pass from Alex Smith to cap off an 86-yard drive in 90 seconds. The Chiefs took the ball on their own 14 after a New England punt and three plays later took a 14-0 lead over the Patriots. On first-and-ten, Knile Davis burst through the New England line and took off for 48 yards to the Patriots 38-yard line. He only stopped when Devin McCourty forced him out of bounds when he tried to stop and cut around him.

Then Alex Smith found tight end Travis Kelce for a quick little out that Kelce turned into a 33-yard gain to the New England five-yard line. From there, Charles took care of the rest.

The Chiefs have dominated all phases of the first half. On the ground, they've rushed for 131 yards already, while the Pats have mustered only 25 yards. Alex Smith has thrown for 172 yards to Tom Brady's 72, and the Chiefs have 17 first downs to New England's five. The only bad thing to say about the first half for the Chiefs was a badly mismanaged last-second drive that ended in a field goal. Still, they now lead the Pats 17-0 at the half.
